Coming to voice: Community radio production as critical pedagogy

This article argues for the pedagogical possibilities of collective community radio show production transnational students; in particular, identifying capacities self-representation students from otherwise marginalised and under-represented communities. Students are tasked this elective module to collectively produce a community-facing multilingual Leicester station; emphasising alongside critical unpacking diverse deployments ‘community’, encourages reflective approaches identity. Through analysing assessment parameters examples student-produced shows, I suggest that theory into practice approach teaching value cultural training by practitioners student agency, within key drawn on studies media studies. At same time, argue module’s assemblage informing theories comprises worthwhile research focus itself, retrieving pedagogy as historically central studies’ disciplinary preoccupations with everyday practice, identity formation popular culture.
